Scion Piece

Now that I’m a working man, my time for artistic projects has decreased dramatically. It’s hard enough to find time to clean my apartment let alone working on something fun.

My parents recently had their barn fixed up a bit. Part of this included the addition of 3 plywood panel walls for the sheep. My mom had asked me to paint the panels for her. I agreed and began brainstorming. I had so many ideas when I started. I have been really inspired by the works of Kofie and Retna. But after more consideration, I knew my skills were more with lettering. I searched around and chose a word that had a good selection of letters and has meaning. The name would be: Scion.

scion |ˈsīən|
noun
1 (also cion) a young shoot or twig of a plant, esp. one cut for grafting or rooting.
2 a descendant of a notable family or one with a long lineage : he was the scion of a wealthy family

I feel like my family and relatives share a close bond. We all get along well and all watch out for each other so I felt this name was fitting. So I worked on some sketches and came up with a final sketch.

When I visited my parents I started the painting. As soon as I started trying to paint directly onto the plywood, it was so porous that the paint was just being soaked up. My only option was to add a layer of primer so that it wouldn’t soak up all the paint.

That was all I ended up accomplishing that weekend. A few weeks later I returned and spent a couple days working on the piece.

This piece ended up being pretty difficult since I haven’t been painting much recently. My arm is still pretty tired from holding down the nozzle for so many hours. I still see tons of things I want to do better with my next piece. But I’m still happy with how this one came out.

Here is my first brush pack. I created these brushes to use on my resume. There are 4 nice spray paint brushes that you can use for whatever you want. They are fairly large and pretty good quality. Pass them around and if you use them in something cool, send me a link so I can check it out! Enjoy!

Icon Pack 1

I figured a good way to start off my blog would be with giving a little bit back to the design community. I’m hoping to be able to do this a lot. I’m starting off by sharing the icons I created for this site. Feel free to distribute these, and use these as you wish.
